GROW IN FAITH 1 – God Is Father

Learning to Trust

Opening Prayer

Father in heaven,
You made us and You love us.
Help us understand who You are.
Teach us to trust You more each day.
Amen.

Part One

How Jesus Teaches Us to Pray

When Jesus teaches His disciples to pray,
He begins with these words:

“Our Father.”

He could have chosen many names for God.
He could have said “Lord” or “King.”
But He says “Father.”

This tells us something important.

God is not far away.
He is not only powerful.
He is personal.

A father knows his children.
He sees them grow.
He listens when they speak.
He cares about what matters to them.

When Jesus says “Our Father,”
He invites us into a relationship of trust.

Scripture

“Thus therefore shall you pray:
Our Father who art in heaven…”
(Matthew 6:9)

Think and Discuss

Why do you think Jesus chose the word “Father”?

What does a good father do for his children?

Is it easy or difficult to trust someone?

When might it feel hard to trust God?

There are no perfect answers.
Listen carefully to one another.

Part Two

What God’s Fatherhood Means

Every human father is imperfect.

God is not.

God’s fatherhood means:

He provides what we truly need.

He guides us when we are unsure.

He corrects us because He loves us.

He forgives us when we return to Him.

Sometimes we do not understand what is happening in our lives.

Things can feel confusing.
Plans can change.
Prayers may not be answered in the way we expect.

Trust does not mean we understand everything.

Trust means believing that God is good
even when we do not see the whole picture.

God does not stop loving us when we fail.
He does not grow tired of helping us.
He is patient.

Guidance for Adults

Keep the tone calm and steady.
If trust is difficult for someone, allow space.
Faith grows through repetition and example, not pressure.

Part Three

Growing in Trust

Trust grows through small choices.

We grow in trust when we:

Speak honestly to God in prayer.

Ask for help when we are weak.

Try again after we fail.

Thank God in good times.

Turn to Him when we are worried.

Even a short prayer can be an act of trust.

When something goes wrong,
we can say quietly:

“Father, I trust You.”

Trust becomes stronger when we practise it.

Quiet Reflection

Sit quietly for a moment.

Think of one thing that worries you.

In your heart say:

“Father, I trust You.”

Remain in silence together.

• Begin each morning with: “Father, guide me today.”
