Made on Purpose
Opening Prayer
Lord God,
You made us and You know us.
Help us understand who we are.
Teach us to see ourselves as You see us.
Amen.
Part One
We Are Not an Accident
The Bible begins with these words:
“In the beginning God created…”
Everything that exists comes from God.
The sky.
The sea.
The animals.
The stars.
And then, something different happens.
God creates human beings.
He does not speak them into being like the light.
He forms them with care.
Scripture
“And God created man to his own image:
to the image of God he created him:
male and female he created them.”
(Genesis 1:27)
Think and Discuss
What does it mean to be “made in God’s image”?
Do you think God made you by accident?
What makes human beings different from animals?
How should we treat other people if they are made in God’s image?
Listen carefully to one another.
Part Two
What It Means to Be Made in God’s Image
To be made in God’s image does not mean we look like Him.
It means we share something deeper.
We can:
Think
Choose
Love
Forgive
Create
We can know God and speak to Him.
That is a great dignity.
Every person you meet carries this dignity.
Even someone who is difficult.
Even someone who makes mistakes.
Even someone who disagrees with you.
We do not earn our dignity.
We receive it from God.
Guidance for Adults
Emphasise that dignity does not depend on success, popularity, or behaviour.
Children need to hear that their worth is given, not achieved.
Part Three
Living as God’s Creation
If we are made by God and for God,
then our lives have purpose.
We are not random.
We are not meaningless.
We are called to:
Grow in goodness
Care for creation
Respect ourselves and others
Use our gifts well
Being created by God also means we are not self-made.
We depend on Him.
When we pray,
we return to the One who made us.
When we choose what is right,
we reflect His image more clearly.
When we treat others with respect,
we honour the image of God in them.
Quiet Reflection
Sit quietly for a moment.
Think about this:
God chose to create you.
You are known.
You are wanted.
You are loved.
Say quietly in your heart:
“Thank You for making me.”
Practise This Week
Choose one:
• Thank God each morning for the gift of life.
• Treat one person with special kindness.
• Care for something God has made — a garden, an animal, the environment.
• Notice one gift God has given you and use it well.
Choose one and keep it simple.
Optional Response
Choose one:
Write
Write one sentence beginning:
“God made me to…”
Keep it short and honest.
Look and Notice
Look around the room.
Name three things God created.
Then name one thing only a human person can do.
Closing Prayer
Creator God,
You made us in Your image.
Help us live with dignity and kindness.
Teach us to respect ourselves and others.
May we reflect Your goodness in all we do.
Amen.
