Staying Faithful Over Time
Opening Prayer
Lord God,
You are faithful and unchanging.
Help us remain faithful to You.
Strengthen us when we grow tired
and guide us when we struggle.
Amen.
Part One
Faith Is Not a Moment
Some things are easy at the beginning.
A new habit.
A new school year.
A new resolution.
But after some time,
enthusiasm can fade.
The Christian life is not only about beginnings.
It is about perseverance.
The Bible says:
“He that shall persevere unto the end,
he shall be saved.”
Perseverance means continuing faithfully
even when it feels ordinary
or difficult.
It means staying close to God
not only in moments of joy
but also in routine.
Scripture
“He that shall persevere unto the end,
he shall be saved.”
(Matthew 24:13)
Think and Discuss
Why is it sometimes hard to keep going?
What helps us remain faithful in small duties?
Why does God value perseverance?
Can ordinary days help us grow?
Allow thoughtful answers.
Part Two
Growing Steadily
Perseverance is built in small ways:
Attending Mass regularly.
Praying daily.
Returning to Confession.
Choosing virtue again and again.
Not every day feels dramatic.
Not every prayer feels powerful.
But faithfulness in ordinary life
forms deep strength.
The saints were not faithful only in great moments.
They were faithful in daily duties.
God often works quietly.
He shapes character slowly.
When we fall,
perseverance means rising again.
When we feel discouraged,
it means trusting that grace is still at work.
Hope supports perseverance.
Grace strengthens it.
Habit stabilises it.
Guidance for Adults
Model consistency more than intensity.
Children learn perseverance by observing steady practice.
Part Three
Trusting God’s Faithfulness
Perseverance is not only our effort.
It is cooperation with God’s faithfulness.
The Bible says:
“He who hath begun a good work in you
will perfect it.”
God does not abandon what He begins.
He works patiently in us.
We are called to remain:
Faithful in prayer.
Faithful in worship.
Faithful in charity.
Even when we do not feel strong.
Perseverance prepares us for heaven.
It prepares us for judgment.
It strengthens vocation.
It deepens virtue.
It forms a life that is steady and trustworthy.
The Christian life is not about excitement.
It is about endurance in love.
Each small, faithful choice
builds toward eternity.
Quiet Reflection
Sit quietly for a moment.
Think of one good habit you are building.
Now say quietly:
“Lord, help me remain faithful.”
Remain in silence together.
Practise This Week
Choose one:
• Pray at the same time each day.
• Attend Mass with renewed intention.
• Return to a habit you have neglected.
• Encourage someone else to remain faithful.
Choose one and keep it steady.
Optional Response
Choose one:
Memory
Repeat slowly:
“Persevere unto the end.”
Say it three times thoughtfully.
Action
Stand upright and say:
“By Your grace, I will continue.”
Closing Prayer
Lord,
Strengthen us in perseverance.
Keep us faithful in small and great things.
Complete the good work
You have begun in us.
Amen.
