God says to Israel:
“I am sending an angel before you. He will guard you. He will bring you to the place I have prepared.”
That is not poetry.
That is a promise.
And it is still true.
Each of us has an angel.
Not a fairy. Not a symbol.
A real, spiritual companion, given at baptism, assigned by God.
An angel who never sleeps.
Who never leaves.
Who sees the face of the Father — and still watches over you.
And Jesus underlines it:
“See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for their angels always see the face of my Father.”
The angels see God, and they guard us.
Heaven and earth meet in the care of the angels.
So, the child ignored by the world? Heaven is watching.
The poor dismissed by society? Heaven is watching.
You — even when you feel invisible — heaven is watching.
The angels teach us three things:
First — the dignity of every soul.
If each of us has an angel who beholds God’s face, then every person is precious beyond words. No one is a nuisance. No one is disposable.
Second — the closeness of God.
You are never alone. Not in the hospital bed, not in the prison cell, not in the darkest night. An angel stands guard. God Himself has sent you protection.
Third — the call to obedience.
God says in Exodus: “Listen to him, do not rebel against him, for my name is in him.”
The angels are messengers of God’s will. To honour our guardian angel is to obey God’s voice.
The saints knew this.
Padre Pio used to send his guardian angel on errands to carry prayers.
St John Bosco taught boys to pray daily to their angels.
St Francis de Sales said: “Make friends with the angels. They will help you in life and in death.”
The angels are not decoration.
They are companions, guardians, allies.
So what about us?
Do we pray to our guardian angel? A simple morning prayer: “Angel of God, my guardian dear…”
Do we remember the dignity of others? That person you find difficult also has an angel before the face of God.
Do we live with confidence? You are never abandoned. Even if everyone else walks away, heaven still stands guard.
Today the Church reminds us:
Heaven is closer than you think.
You are more precious than you know.
You are more protected than you realise.
So — walk in faith.
Walk in courage.
Walk in obedience.
Because an angel walks with you.
And one day, God willing, your angel will walk you home.
The world may forget you, but your angel never will.
Your guardian angel sees God’s face — and never stops watching yours.
