Just Teach Sheet Teens August Week 2

Teen Just Teach Sheet – August Week 2

Theme: Listening to God

Whole Community Catechesis Theme (August): Prayer & Personal Relationship with God
Goal: Help teens understand that prayer is not just talking—it’s also learning to listen to God in silence, Scripture, and everyday life.

️ Opening Prayer (each day)

Lord, You already know everything about me.
Help me slow down.
Help me hear what You are saying—through silence, through Scripture, through my heart.
Amen.

️ Day 1 – Why Listening Matters in Prayer

 1 Samuel 3:10

“Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.”

 Read aloud or silently:
We often think of prayer as “talking to God.”
But what if He wants to speak back?
God won’t usually shout. He speaks quietly, like a friend. The problem is, most of us never stop long enough to hear Him.

 Ask or Journal:

When was the last time I gave God even one minute of silence?

What do I think He would say to me if I let Him?

✍️ Try This:
Say: “Speak, Lord, I’m listening.”
Then sit still for 2 minutes. Don’t try to feel anything—just be there.

️ Day 2 – Where Do I Hear God?

 Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

 Read aloud or silently:
God doesn’t only speak in words. He can speak through:

Scripture

Silence

Conscience

A parent’s or friend’s advice

Something unexpected that just feels “right” deep inside

 Ask or Journal:

What helps me be still?

Where in my life has something felt like more than coincidence?

✍️ Try This:
Pick one moment today to be still for just one minute (before bed, after school, before class).
Say: “Be still, my soul. God is near.”
Then just be.

️ Day 3 – Listening with Scripture

 Luke 10:39

“Mary sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what He was saying.”

 Read aloud or silently:
Lots of people talk about Jesus. Mary just sat and listened.
You can listen to Jesus today by reading His words and letting them speak to you personally.

 Ask or Journal:

Do I treat the Bible like a textbook… or like someone speaking to me?

What’s one thing Jesus has said that stuck with me?

✍️ Try This:
Read Luke 10:38–42 (the story of Mary and Martha).
Which sister do you relate to more? Why?

Say: “Jesus, help me be still like Mary.”

️ Day 4 – What If God Feels Silent?

 Psalm 13:1

“How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?”

 Read aloud or silently:
Even people in the Bible felt like God was quiet sometimes.
Silence doesn’t mean He’s gone. It means He’s inviting you to trust.
Think about a strong friendship—sometimes just sitting together in silence is enough.

 Ask or Journal:

Do I ever give up when God doesn’t “answer” right away?

What would it mean to trust that He’s still listening—even if I don’t feel it?

✍️ Try This:
Today, try not to ask for anything in prayer. Just sit in silence and say:

“God, I don’t hear You yet, but I believe You’re near.”

️ Day 5 – What Might God Be Saying to Me?

 John 10:27

“My sheep hear My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.”

 Read aloud or silently:
Jesus says we can know His voice.
That doesn’t mean hearing with our ears—it means recognising truth in our hearts.
The more time we spend with God, the easier it is to tell when He’s speaking.

 Ask or Journal:

What’s something I think God might be saying to me right now?

Is there anything I’m ignoring or afraid to hear?

✍️ Try This:
Write your own version of this prayer:

“Jesus, I want to hear You. Help me recognise Your voice.”

Say it each day this weekend. Keep listening.

 End of Week Check-in

Use for group or personal reflection:

Did anything surprise you during prayer this week?

What’s one moment where silence or Scripture helped you feel more aware of God?

What are you still unsure about when it comes to “hearing” God?

What prayer habit could you keep going next week?

Real Talk: How Do I Know It’s God Speaking?

God’s voice brings peace—even if it’s challenging.
It doesn’t accuse, confuse, or pressure.
If something draws you toward love, truth, or trust in Him—it’s probably Him.
If it leads to fear, self-hate, or hiding—it’s not.

Ask Him:

“Is this from You, Lord?”
Then wait. You’ll learn to tell.
