Just Teach Sheets Adults October Week 1

Adult Track – Just Teach Sheet

October Week 1
Theme: Saints & Holiness
Audience: Adult Catholics (newly returned, active, or deepening formation)
Focus: Saints are not exceptions but examples. Holiness is the normal goal of every Christian life — and it is possible for us today.

Weekly Goal

To help adults understand that sainthood is their vocation. Holiness is not for “special” people only but for all the baptised. Saints show us how to live prayerfully, courageously, and lovingly in daily life.

What You’ll Need

This sheet

Bible

Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 946–962; 2013–2015)

Journal or notebook

Opening Prayer (Daily)

Lord God,
You call every one of us to holiness.
Help me to live faithfully as a Catholic,
to grow in prayer, courage, and charity,
so that I may become the saint You created me to be.
Amen.

Day 1 – Holiness Is for Everyone

Teaching:
Holiness is not an “optional extra.” Every baptised Catholic is called to be a saint.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 – “This is the will of God, your sanctification.”
CCC 2013 – “All Christians in any state or walk of life are called to the fullness of Christian life and to the perfection of charity.”

Reflection:
The call to holiness is universal — it applies to parents, workers, students, priests, and religious alike.

Questions:

Do I see holiness as possible in my life?

What stops me from believing that?

Day 2 – Saints Were Ordinary People

Teaching:
Saints were not born holy. Many struggled with sin, doubts, or weakness — but they persevered in grace.

Examples:

St. Augustine lived a worldly life before conversion.

St. Peter denied Jesus three times.

2 Corinthians 12:9 – “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”

Reflection:
The saints’ weakness shows that God’s grace, not our strength, makes holiness possible.

Questions:

What weakness in my life could become an opportunity for grace?

Day 3 – The Saints’ Source: Prayer and the Sacraments

Teaching:
No saint grew in holiness without prayer and the sacraments.

John 15:5 – “Apart from Me you can do nothing.”
CCC 2558 – “Prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God.”

Examples:

St. Therese of Lisieux found holiness in daily prayer and small acts of love.

St. John Paul II drew strength from the Eucharist and Confession.

Reflection:
Holiness is impossible without being rooted in Christ.

Questions:

How can I grow in daily prayer?

Do I receive the sacraments regularly (Mass, Confession)?

Day 4 – Holiness in Love and Service

Teaching:
The mark of a saint is charity — real, lived love. Holiness is measured by love of God and neighbour.

1 Corinthians 13:2 – “If I have all faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
CCC 1827 – “The practice of all the virtues is animated and inspired by charity.”

Examples:

St. Vincent de Paul lived radical charity for the poor.

Mother Teresa saw Christ in the dying and abandoned.

Reflection:
Holiness cannot exist without love in action.

Questions:

What act of service can I do this week for someone in need?

Day 5 – Witness: Courage in the World

Teaching:
Saints often faced ridicule, persecution, or martyrdom. They show us holiness requires courage.

Matthew 5:14–16 – “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others.”
CCC 2472 – “The duty of Christians to take part in the life of the Church impels them to act as witnesses of the Gospel.”

Examples:

St. Thomas More chose faith over political power.

Modern martyrs gave their lives for Christ in hostile lands.

Reflection:
Holiness is costly. It requires courage to stand publicly with Christ.

Questions:

Where is God asking me to be a witness today?

Am I ready to suffer, even in small ways, for my Catholic faith?

Weekend Wrap-Up – Becoming a Saint Today

Holiness is the vocation of every Catholic.

Saints were ordinary, weak people made strong by grace.

Prayer, sacraments, charity, and witness are the pillars of holiness.

God calls us to be saints now, not later.

Reflection prompts:

Which saint’s example challenges me the most?

How can I imitate them this week?

Journal Prompts

“One weakness where I need His grace is…”
