Just Teach Sheets – Children December Week 4 2025

Parent / Guardian / Catechist – Just Teach Sheet

December Week 4 (2025)
Theme: Advent & Preparation
Focus: Mary Says Yes – Jesus Is Very Near
Audience: Children (Ages 7+, First Holy Communion Prep)

Weekly Goal

The child learns that Mary’s “Yes” brought Jesus very close — and that when we say yes to God in small, real ways, Jesus comes close to us too.
This final week of Advent helps children prepare calmly and prayerfully for Christmas by learning trust, obedience, and joyful expectation.

What You’ll Need

This sheet

A Bible or printed verses

Advent wreath (all candles if possible)

Paper and crayons

Opening Prayer (Say Daily)

Mary, Mother of Jesus,
you said yes to God with love and trust.
Help me to say yes too —
to listen, to obey, and to welcome Jesus into my heart.
Amen.

Day 1 – God Asked Mary to Do Something Big

Say aloud:
God sent the angel Gabriel to Mary with an amazing message:
She would be the Mother of Jesus — God’s Son!
Mary was surprised, but she listened carefully.

Luke 1:26–28
“Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you.”

Mini Homily Reflection:
God doesn’t shout.
He speaks gently — and waits for us to listen.

Ask:

How do you think Mary felt when the angel spoke to her?

Is it easy or hard to listen to God?

Practice:
Sit quietly for 30 seconds and say:

“Lord, I am listening.”

Day 2 – Mary Trusted God

Say aloud:
Mary didn’t understand everything — but she trusted God completely.
She believed that God would take care of her.

Luke 1:30–31
“Do not be afraid… You will conceive and bear a son.”

Mini Homily Reflection:
Trust means believing God is good — even when we feel nervous or unsure.

Ask:

Have you ever trusted someone even when you were scared?

What helps you trust God?

Practice:
Draw a heart and write inside:
“Mary trusted God.”
Add one way you can trust God today.

Day 3 – Mary Said “Yes”

Say aloud:
Mary answered the angel with the most important yes ever spoken:

“Let it be done to me according to Your word.”

Luke 1:38

Mini Homily Reflection:
Mary’s yes brought Jesus into the world.
Our yes brings Jesus closer to our hearts.

Ask:

What are some small ways you can say yes to God?

How does saying yes make room for Jesus?

Practice:
Say together:

“Jesus, I say yes to You today.”

Day 4 – Jesus Is Very Near

Say aloud:
After Mary said yes, Jesus was very close — growing quietly inside her.
That’s why Advent is almost over: Jesus is near!

Luke 1:41–42
“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapt in her womb.”

Mini Homily Reflection:
When Jesus is near, joy grows — even before we see Him.

Ask:

How do we know Jesus is close to us now?

Where do you feel close to Jesus — at home, at church, when praying?

Practice:
Light the final Advent candle and say:

“Come, Lord Jesus — we are ready.”

Day 5 – Getting Ready for Christmas

Say aloud:
The best way to get ready for Christmas is not rushing or worrying —
it’s being loving, kind, and prayerful like Mary.

Luke 2:6–7
“She gave birth to her firstborn son.”

Mini Homily Reflection:
Jesus came quietly — not in a palace, but in love.
That’s how He still comes today.

Ask:

How can we be gentle and loving like Mary today?

What gift can you give Jesus this Christmas?

Practice:
Make a “gift” picture and write inside:
“My gift to Jesus is…” (kindness, prayer, sharing, forgiveness)

Prayer Prompt or Journal Space

Apologetics for Parents

Why focus on Mary right before Christmas?
→ Because Jesus came to us through her yes — God chose to need her cooperation.

Why do Catholics honour Mary?
→ Because God honoured her first by choosing her to be Jesus’ mother.

Does Mary replace Jesus?
→ No — she always leads us to Him. She brings Him closer.
