Audience: Children (First Holy Communion Prep, Ages 7+)

Weekly Goal

The child learns that holiness is possible for anyone — even kings and rulers. St. Edward the Confessor (1003–1066) was a good king who trusted God, cared for the poor, and built churches.

What You’ll Need

This sheet

Bible

A picture of St. Edward (if possible, e.g. from a parish window or image)

Paper and crayons

Opening Prayer (Daily)

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for St. Edward the Confessor,
who shows us how to love You while serving others.
Help me to follow You with honesty, kindness, and faith.
Amen.

Day 1 – A King Who Loved God

Say aloud:
St. Edward was a king of England almost a thousand years ago. He loved God deeply and tried to rule with justice and peace.

Psalm 24:3–4 – “Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? He who has clean hands and a pure heart.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
Even kings and rulers must serve God. Holiness is for everyone, whatever their role.

Ask:

What would you do if you were a king or queen?

Do you think you could be holy in that job?

Day 2 – Edward Was Called “the Confessor”

Say aloud:
Edward was called “the Confessor” because he confessed his faith in Christ and lived it out. Unlike martyrs, confessors live holy lives without dying for the faith.

Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord… you will be saved.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
Confessing our faith means living as Catholics in public — not hiding it.

Ask:

How do you show your faith to others?

Is it easy or hard to be known as a Catholic?

Day 3 – Edward’s Kindness and Charity

Say aloud:
St. Edward was generous to the poor. He made sure people were cared for in his kingdom. He saw his role as serving others, not just himself.

Matthew 25:40 – “Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for Me.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
Holiness is always shown in love — even kings must serve the poor.

Ask:

Who are “the poor” today?

How could we help them like St. Edward did?

Activity:
Draw a picture of St. Edward giving bread to the poor.

Day 4 – Edward Built Westminster Abbey

Say aloud:
Edward built Westminster Abbey in London — one of the most famous churches in the world. He wanted a house of prayer for God at the heart of his kingdom.

Psalm 122:1 – “I rejoiced when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!’”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
Holy people help build up the Church — not just buildings, but living communities of faith.

Ask:

Why do you think Edward built such a big church?

How do churches help us grow closer to God?

Day 5 – Holiness in Leadership

Say aloud:
Edward was not perfect, but he tried to rule with peace and justice. He is remembered as a king who loved God and served others.

Micah 6:8 – “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
Holiness means serving others with humility, whatever our role — as king, parent, student, or child.

Ask:

What role do you have in your family or school?

How can you be holy in it?

→ A confessor is someone who lived holiness and confessed the faith publicly without martyrdom.

Q: Why remember him today?
