Just Teach Sheets Children September Week 3

Parent/Guardian/Catechist – Just Teach Sheet

September Week 3
Theme: Faith & Belonging to the Church
Audience: Children (First Holy Communion prep, ages 7+)
Focus: The Mass is the heart of God’s family life — it is where we come together as the Church to worship, listen to God’s Word, and receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

 Weekly Goal

The child understands that belonging to the Church means gathering every Sunday at Mass to worship as God’s family.

 What You’ll Need

This sheet

A Bible (or printed verses below)

Child’s prayer space

Paper and crayons for drawing activities

️ Opening Prayer (Daily)

Lord Jesus,
Thank You for giving us the Mass,
where Your family comes together.
Help me to listen to Your Word,
to pray with the Church,
and to receive You with love.
Amen.

 Day 1 – God’s Family Gathers

Say aloud:
Families eat meals together. God’s family does too! The Mass is our family meal, where we hear God’s Word and receive Jesus in Holy Communion.

Acts 2:42 – “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
From the very first Christians, believers gathered every Sunday. We still do this today — it’s what makes us God’s family.

Ask:

Why do you think it’s important that we all come together on Sundays?

 Day 2 – Listening to God’s Word

Say aloud:
At Mass, we don’t just talk to God — we listen. The readings are God speaking to His family.

Luke 11:28 – “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
When the Bible is read at Mass, it’s not just history — it’s God speaking to us now.

Ask:

How can you listen better at Mass?

What’s one Bible story you really like?

Activity:
Draw a picture of you listening to Jesus reading from a book.

 Day 3 – Praying Together

Say aloud:
We pray at Mass as one family: we say the Our Father, we sing, we kneel, we respond together.

Matthew 18:20 – “Where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I among them.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
Praying together makes us stronger. We remind each other that we belong to Jesus.

Ask:

What prayer at Mass do you know best?

Which prayer would you like to learn better?

 Day 4 – Receiving Jesus

Say aloud:
The most special part of Mass is Holy Communion — Jesus truly comes to us in the Eucharist.

John 6:51 – “I am the living bread… If anyone eats this bread, he will live forever.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
The family meal of the Church is not just bread — it is Jesus Himself!

Ask:

How do you think we should prepare our hearts to receive Jesus?

️ Day 5 – Going Out as Church

Say aloud:
At the end of Mass, the priest says: “Go in peace.” This means we take Jesus with us into the world.

Matthew 28:19–20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations… And behold, I am with you always.”

️ Mini Homily Reflection:
The Church doesn’t stop at the church doors. We bring Jesus’ love wherever we go.

Ask:

How can you bring Jesus’ love to someone today?

Weekend Wrap-Up – Mass is the Family of God Together

Ask gently:

Why do we call the Mass our family meal?

What do we do together as God’s family at Mass?

How do we take Jesus with us after Mass?

Encourage your child to draw “Our family at Mass.”

✍️ Prayer Prompt or Journal Space

Complete:
“Jesus, when I go to Mass, I feel…”
“My favourite part of Mass is…”

️ Apologetics for Parents

Q: Why do Catholics have to go to Mass every Sunday?
A: Because Jesus commanded us to “do this in memory of Me.” From the very first Christians, Sunday Mass has been essential to faith. It’s where we hear God’s Word, receive the Eucharist, and live as His family.

Q: Isn’t Mass boring for kids?
A: The Mass is heaven on earth. Even if children don’t understand everything, bringing them teaches them to belong to God’s family. Over time, the meaning sinks in.

Catechism Extension (for older children / parents)

CCC 1324 – “The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.”

CCC 2177 – Sunday is the day the faithful gather “to celebrate the Paschal mystery.”
