Children’s Liturgy of the Word
6th Sunday of Easter (Year A)
Theme: Jesus Does Not Leave Us Alone
1. Welcome & Gathering
Leader:
Today Jesus says something very important:
“I will not leave you orphans.”
That means:
We are not alone.
Jesus is still with us.
Let us begin with the Sign of the Cross.
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Leader:
Jesus,
You are with us.
Help us to know You are near.
Amen.
2. Introducing the Theme
Ask:
Have you ever felt alone?
(Take a few answers)
What helps when you feel alone?
Someone being there.
Someone listening.
Someone helping.
Now say:
Jesus knows that feeling.
And today He promises:
You are not alone.
3. Gospel (Simplified – John 14)
Leader:
Jesus said:
“I will not leave you alone.
I will send you the Holy Spirit.
If you love me,
you will keep my commandments.
I am in you,
and you are in me.”
Leader:
The Gospel of the Lord.
Children:
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
4. Reflection
Jesus says:
“I will not leave you.”
That means:
Even though we cannot see Him,
He is still with us.
How?
Through the Holy Spirit.
Through the Church.
Through Mass.
Through prayer.
Think about this.
If someone you love is far away,
you can still be close.
You speak to them.
You remember them.
You stay connected.
But with Jesus—it is even more.
He is not far away.
He is really with us.
Then Jesus says:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
That means:
We show love by how we live.
So what does that look like?
- Being kind when it is hard
- Telling the truth
- Forgiving others
- Listening to God
That is how we stay close to Jesus.
Then Jesus says:
“I am in you.”
That is amazing.
Jesus is not just near us.
He wants to live in us.
And where do we receive Him?
At Mass.
In Holy Communion.
So remember:
You are not alone.
Jesus is with you.
And you can stay close to Him.
5. Quiet Prayer
Leader:
Close your eyes.
Jesus,
You are with me.
Pause.
Help me to know You are near.
Pause.
Help me to follow You.
Pause.
Stay with me always.
6. Living the Gospel
Leader:
This week:
- Remember: Jesus is with you
- Speak to Him in prayer
- Choose what is right
A simple prayer:
“Jesus, stay with me.”
7. Closing Prayer
Leader:
Jesus,
You do not leave us alone.
Help us to stay close to You
every day.
Amen.
8. Sending Back
Leader:
Today we heard that Jesus is with us.
Let us go back to Mass
and stay close to Him.
Optional Activities
1. “Lost & Found”
Best after Introduction
Leader tells a short scenario:
“Imagine you are in a big shop…
You turn around…
and the person you came with is gone.”
Pause.

Then say:
That feeling—being alone—that’s what Jesus is speaking about.
And He says:
“I will not leave you.”
2. Guided Presence Exercise
Best before Reflection or before Quiet Prayer

“Open your eyes.
That is what Jesus means—He is with us.”
