1. What Is Baptism?
Baptism is the first sacrament of the Christian life.
Through Baptism, your child:
- is freed from original sin
- becomes a child of God
- becomes a member of the Church
- begins a new life in Christ
Baptism is not simply a family tradition or special occasion. God truly acts through this sacrament.
It is the beginning of a lifelong journey of faith.
2. Your Role as Parents
At the baptism, you will promise to bring your child up in the Catholic faith.
This means helping your child to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ through:
- prayer
- Sunday Mass
- the sacraments
- Christian example
- life within the Church
Parents are the first and most important teachers of faith.
Children learn not only through words, but through the ordinary witness of family life — through prayer, forgiveness, kindness, faithfulness, and the example of seeing their parents live the faith sincerely.
You are not expected to be perfect. Faith grows slowly, and the Church wants to accompany and support you along the way.
3. Living Baptism at Home
Small and faithful habits help children grow naturally in the life of faith.
Some simple ways to begin are:
✔ Pray simple prayers together each day.
✔ Make the Sign of the Cross with your child.
✔ Keep Sunday Mass at the centre of family life.
✔ Talk naturally about God and faith at home.
✔ Teach kindness, forgiveness, and love by your example.
✔ Encourage your child in prayer and the sacraments as they grow.
✔ Keep a crucifix, Bible, or holy water in the home as reminders of faith.
Children learn faith best when they see it lived calmly and consistently.
4. Baptism Is the Beginning
Baptism is not the end of a journey but the beginning of one.
The life of grace planted in your child through Baptism is meant to grow slowly through prayer, love, worship, and Christian family life.
Our parish wishes to continue supporting and accompanying your family long after the day of Baptism itself.
No family is expected to walk this journey alone.
