Intercessions, 16th August, The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Priest: Brothers and sisters, rejoicing in the glorious Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, let us bring our prayers before God our Father, who raises the lowly and promises eternal life to all who belong to Christ.

For the Church throughout the world: that, following the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she may remain faithful to Christ and lead all people towards the glory of Heaven.
Lord, hear us.

For Pope Leo, Bishop Patrick, and all who shepherd God’s people: that, strengthened by the prayers of the Mother of God, they may proclaim the Gospel with courage and preserve the Church in unity and truth.
Lord, hear us.

For the rulers of nations: that they may defend the dignity of every human life, protect the weak and vulnerable, and work for justice and peace.
Lord, hear us.

For Christians who suffer persecution, and for all who are burdened by illness, grief, loneliness or fear: that the Virgin assumed into Heaven may console them and strengthen their hope in the victory of Christ.
Lord, hear us.

For our families: that Our Lady may help us to welcome Christ into our homes, to serve one another with charity, and to remain faithful in prayer and at Sunday Mass.
Lord, hear us.

For our children and young people: that, like Mary, they may listen to the word of God, remain pure in heart, and respond generously to the vocation He gives them.
Lord, hear us.

For those who have died, especially our relatives, friends, and those for whom we have promised to pray: that Christ, the firstfruits of the resurrection, may raise them up and receive them into the joy of Heaven.
Lord, hear us.

Let us now offer our own prayers in the silence of our hearts.

Pause.

Let us ask the prayers of Mary, Queen assumed into Heaven.

Priest: Almighty and eternal God, You raised the Immaculate Virgin Mary,
the Mother of Your Son,
body and soul into the glory of Heaven.
Hear the prayers we offer in faith,
keep our hearts fixed upon the things above,
and bring us at last to share in the resurrection of Christ,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
