Intercessions, 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, 30th August

Priest: Brothers and sisters, called to follow Christ along the way of the Cross, let us place our needs before the Father who never abandons those who trust in Him.

Reader: For the holy Catholic Church:
that she may never conform herself to the spirit of the age, but faithfully proclaim Christ crucified and lead all people in the way of truth and salvation.
Lord, hear us.

Reader: For Pope Leo, Bishop Patrick, priests, deacons, and all who shepherd God’s people:
that they may have the courage of the prophets, preaching the Gospel without fear, compromise, or desire for human approval.
Lord, hear us.

Reader: For those who govern the nations:
that they may recognise the dignity of every human person, resist injustice and self-interest, and use their authority in the service of truth and the common good.
Lord, hear us.

Reader: For Christians who suffer persecution, ridicule, or rejection because of their faith:
that, like Jeremiah, they may remain steadfast and find strength in the word of God burning within their hearts.
Lord, hear us.

Reader: For those carrying heavy crosses through illness, bereavement, family difficulties, or disappointment:
that they may know the presence of Christ beside them and unite their sufferings to His saving Cross.
Lord, hear us.

Reader: For our parish family:
that we may not be conformed to this world, but renewed in mind and heart, learning to deny ourselves, resist sin, and follow Christ faithfully.
Lord, hear us.

Reader: For the faithful departed, especially our relatives, friends, benefactors, and those for whom we have promised to pray:
that, having carried the cross in this life, they may now share in the glory of the Resurrection.
Lord, hear us.

Reader: Let us now offer our own prayers in the silence of our hearts. (Pause.)

Reader: Let us ask the prayers of Our Lady of Sorrows, who stood faithfully beneath the Cross.
All: Hail Mary…

Priest: Almighty Father, you call us to offer ourselves as a living sacrifice and to follow your Son along the way of the Cross. Strengthen us in faith, renew our minds by your grace, and hear the prayers we make with confidence. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
